You crack a tooth on a handful of sunflower seeds at Hodgetown. Your kid wakes up with a swollen cheek on a school morning. A filling falls out the day before a road trip down I-40. In moments like these, “Our next available appointment is in three weeks” is the last thing you want to hear.
That’s exactly why Dental Group of Amarillo offers walk-in dentistry at every one of our offices. Here’s how it works, when to use it, and what to expect.
What Is Walk-In Dentistry?
Walk-in dentistry means you can come to one of our offices during business hours without a scheduled appointment, and our team will do everything possible to see you that day. It’s designed for real life, when something hurts, breaks, or just can’t wait.
One of our patients described it perfectly in a Google review. She wrote that Dr. King got her in quickly so she wouldn’t have to deal with a broken tooth, and that his assistant was just as kind. Another patient shared that when a filling fell out, our team got her in within a couple of hours. That’s what we aim for every day.
When Walking In Makes Sense
Walk-in visits are ideal for:
- Toothaches, especially sudden or throbbing pain
- Chipped, cracked, or broken teeth
- Lost fillings or crowns
- Swelling in the gums or face
- Pain or pressure from a wisdom tooth
- Broken or uncomfortable dentures
- New patients who want to get established quickly
For a routine cleaning or a planned procedure like Invisalign, scheduling ahead is usually best, so we can reserve the right amount of time for you.
When to Go to the ER Instead
If you have swelling that’s spreading toward your eye or down your neck, trouble breathing or swallowing, a high fever with facial swelling, or a serious injury to your jaw, go to the nearest emergency room or call 911. Once you’re safe, we’ll take care of the dental side.

Tips for a Smooth Walk-In Visit
Come early. Arriving earlier in the day gives us the most flexibility to fit you in.
Call ahead if you can. A quick call to (806) 358-7633 (or (806) 421-0922 for Canyon) lets our team know you’re on the way and helps us prepare.
Bring your info. Have your ID, insurance card, and a list of medications handy. New patients can also complete registration online before arriving.
Save any broken pieces. If you broke a tooth or a crown came off, bring it with you.
What Happens When You Arrive
We’ll start by understanding what’s going on and getting you comfortable. A dentist will examine the area and take X-rays if needed to find the source of the problem. Our first goal is to relieve your pain. Then we’ll explain your options clearly, along with costs, so you can make the decision that’s right for you.
We also promise never to recommend treatment you don’t actually need. Sometimes the simplest fix is the right one.
Making Care Affordable
We’re in network with many major dental insurance plans, including Aetna, Cigna, MetLife, UnitedHealthcare, Guardian, Humana, and more. We also offer no-interest payment programs to help spread out the cost of treatment.
Don’t Wait in Pain
If something doesn’t feel right, don’t tough it out until next month. Stop by any Dental Group of Amarillo office, or call (806) 358-7633 to let us know you’re coming. We proudly serve families across Amarillo, Canyon, and the Texas Panhandle.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an appointment to be seen?
No. All of our offices offer walk-in dentistry during business hours. Calling ahead can help us prepare, but it isn’t required.
How long will I wait as a walk-in?
Wait times vary depending on the day and the urgency of other patients. Arriving earlier in the day usually means a shorter wait.
Can new patients walk in?
Yes. Walk-in visits are a great way to get established with our practice, especially if you’re dealing with pain right now.
Can I get treatment the same day I walk in?
In many cases, yes. We’ll relieve your pain first and complete treatment that day whenever possible. More complex care may be scheduled for a follow-up visit.
